I'm reading through Lord of the Rings (yes, again) and I found an interesting thought wandering in my head: I like Strider the Ranger better than Aragorn King of Gondor. I think one of the reasons for this is that Strider the Ranger is a whole lot more mysterious and anonymous than Aragorn King of Gondor. Thoughts on this?

Aragorn is a wonderful character.
As a King, he is who he must be. You can tell that he really doesn't like the stinginess of leadership that is required, but he also knows that his people need him.
As a Ranger, he is allowed to be who he really is. You can tell that he likes his job. Yes, he more mysterious....but he's also way cooler.
*Sofia says that Strider's hotter, also*

Yes. As does Cecilia... Hey, methought that Sofia was subdued! It looketh not like she is at all vanquished to me!
(By the way, I looked up "Subdue" in the dictionary and found that "vanquish" is one of the definitions/synonyms. So you can no longer say that she is not vanquished, just subdued. I win!)

Subdued...vanquished.....it's all good. She has besieged my mind, but I shall prevail!

I find myself much like Eowyn on this one. Although he be naught but a shadow and a thought.

I think I liked him better as the ranger too. He was more personable as a ranger because his rank allowed him to be that way, but as a king he has to kind of step away so he can be the ruler, not the comrade.

We actually didn't get to see that much of the "crowned" king. I thought he was good when he led Gondor and Rohan at the Black Gate.

True, but even then, he is still the Ranger. he is still the Aragorn we have all come to know and love. As he is crowned, the world falls apart. He marries Arwen, of all people, and Eowyn marries Faramir, for reasons yet unknown, and Aragorn has to be stuffy, and he's no longer hott and scruffy and and and.........
You get my point.

Very true. Though you've got to know that I'm laughing at that description.... ;D "hott and scruffy" etc.

I also thought he was better as a ranger. When he is "King Aragorn" he can only have good draft when he's visiting his friends and no one is around to see him who would care.
