Sorry about the 'subject' but it does not have enough room. I was going to put in the full name, but, see above. Any way, this thread is for those who have read or (in my case) are reading The Lost Road.

Well, since nobody is responding even to tell me that there aren't enough people on this site, then I will make an other post: FN I and FN II are kinda interesting but the commentary after them is sooooo borring. THE LOST ROAD itself is verrrryyyy interesting.

Really. I'll read it as soon as I've got my library books down to a decent number. I've got at least five now, so I'll come for it when I want it.

Anyone read the Silmarillion? Wonderful compilation of the histories.....but dreadfully dry for the first 200 pages.

Yes, quite. I'm in the middle of it, and I must say this: I'm glad to be done with Numenor! Not that I don't like Numenor, it was just dragging and they did get what they deserved.

It does a very good job of explaining Aragorn's quote in Fellowship, though. "Then Sauron the Deciever..." for that is what he was. I actually rather liked Numenor, although dry.
My favorite stories have to be elven, though. The trees had to have been unsurpased in beauty. Earendil......such stories really provided a wonderful base of culture from which to draw. It makes Middle Earth seem that much more an actual time...place...

True. My father noted that the relative distance from the Undying Lands to Numenor was about the same as from Great Britain to Atlantis. Hmm.....

Tolkein was a master of subtlety.

If you read "Tolkien: a Biography" then you would know that Tolkien believed that it did happened like the Nors Sagas. Numenor is very interesting! I will admit that it isn't the fastest moving part of the book, but it is still very interesting. if you read "The Lost Road and Other Tales" then you would learn that the numenoriens, after coming to Middle Earth, built ships that could sail "...on the airs of Varda" or whatever the world is called.

oohhh, even more literacy is evident! Nice command of the language you've got there, child.
And if you'll look in the post above my clone's, you'll find that misstatement at the end.
