I see that I have neglected in my duty to tell you that I will be heading to Bolivia on a mission's trip this summer. So I thought that some of you might enjoy reading my prayer letter that I sent out to my relatives. If nothing else, I could use the prayer. Thanks. ;D
Hello Everyone!
My name is Alicia. Most of you know me, some of you may not.
For those of you who belong to the latter group,
I have included a few minor details about myself.
Full Name: Alicia Kay Tucker
Known Aliases: Lisa, Sis, Leeshee…
Birthday and Age: February 6 and I’m 17.
Favorite color: In correct order: Yellow, lime green, florescent orange and blue.
Talents or hobbies: Sewing, piano, Bible quizzing, annoying others,
Bible quizzing, reading, Bible quizzing…
Employment: Full time student, part time employee at Lu’s Sew Creative.
( I convince innocent bystanders to buy nice sewing machines.)
Now that you know a little about me let’s get down to the main reason I am writing this letter.
On July 1st 2006 around 10:30am, I shall be boarding a plane with 17 others bound for Bolivia. Why are we going? Well, my church sponsors a school called CCC La Palmera in Trinidad (http://www.bcpfield.org/en/index.php), and each year they send a team there to help out and to bring supplies. I have been interested in going for several years and finally have the opportunity to go. (Hurrah!) We will be there for ten days helping two missionaries from Scotland with the spreading of God’s word and with various tasks that must be done.
(Yes, before you ask, my parents are really letting me go, even though some of my relatives are not to thrilled with the idea.)
This is going to be a ton of fun! Some of the things I have the opportunity to do while there is help teach in the school, establish a nursery for the 1-4 year olds, build a camp, feed the native mosquitoes, get a major sunburn and anything else they happen to throw my way.
Anyway, this letter that I am attempting to write is my sad/poor attempt at a prayer letter and a small plea for financial support, (I’ll explain that later). We all know that God works wonders with prayer and I ask that while I and my friends are in Bolivia that you please pray for us before we go and while we are there. Thank you; down below is a list of some of the things that you might want to pray for.
- Communication (Err, I only speak English.)
- To meet Carolina Desiree. (She is a student of La Palmera that my family sponsors)
- To be a good example and a blessing to everyone I meet.
- To show God’s love.
- Health. Oh, and for all of us to remember not to drink the water.
- I am helping to pack all the supplies that we are taking up so please pray that we will have enough room to bring everything and that we will not lose any of our luggage.
- Finances. This almost seems to be a given for any missions trip. This would not be for me though, but rather for the whole team. Let’s see if I can explain:
The Lord has already provided for me over the last couple of years so that I have the needed money to pay for my plane ticket and any other small expenses that may come up. However, our team usually has a benefactor who provides $5,000 each year to spend on supplies that we might not be able to bring but that we can buy while we’re there. Unfortunately, that isn’t happening this year. So we’re a little short on money right now. Another thing is we once had two schools in Bolivia, one in Trinidad and the other in Rurrenabaque. The school had to be closed for various reasons, but our church is now trying to raise $25,000 to reopen the school again in 2007. So ummm, “Alms, alms for the poor?” (You can make any checks out to Plymouth Bible Chapel and just send them to my house. I will give them to the elders at my church.)
- For me not to get frustrated at anyone and tell them to “go jump in a lake.” (hehe, short temper)
- Prayer that my parents don’t go off their rocker while I’m away. Oh, and that goes for my little sister too.
I would really appreciate the prayer. I believe that this is the Lord’s will that I go to Bolivia and I just wish to be a help to others and to share the love of the Lord. The Lord works in many ways my friends, and I have seen what the power of prayer can do. Thank you one and all.
With love and God’s blessing,
Alicia
