Tanda glanced at Alek, who nodded. "Lenna, you go along with Alek. I'll take Thenin to the sarge." Thenin glanced nervously at her, but she smiled as sweetly as she could manage. "Don't worry, you'll be ready to go in no time."

She led Thenin to the Sargeant down the hall. "Sign up, Sarge!" He glared at her, in obvious frustration. Thought you could get rid of me, did you?, she thought. The Sargeant sighed and tossed a pile of papers in their general direction. "Sign 'em" Tanda caught them deftly, saving them from scattering across the room. "Got a pen? This'll only take a minute, you know. After this, we take these back to Grumpy over there. He'll stamp them and you'll report down the hall to the assignment office."

Thenin pulled a pen from the back of her ponytail. "It doesn't get lost when I have it back there." Thenin explained to Tanda, turning a light shade of pink. Quickly she signed the papers glancing swiftly through them before handing them back to the Sargeant who by now was looking like a flustered hen with her feathers rubbed the wrong way

Alek led Lenna through the door of the Assignments office. Lenna was more than a bit surprised to see Kerrik sitting behind the desk. "What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Filling in."
"Oh."
Alek cut in before Lenna embarrassed herself further: "Kerrik, she's signed up and needs something to do. And while you're at it, find two jobs--Tanda's taking care of another recruit right now."
"Sure thing," Kerrik said, and slid open the drawer of a filing cabinet. He leafed through a few files before pulling two out. Before he could say what they were, though, Tanda and Thenin stepped through the door.

Tanda saw a wonderful opportunity to confuse everyone, and pounced upon it with all her heart. She marched herself across the room, slapped Kerik lightly across the face, took the papers from his hand and sat on him as if he were part of the chair. She attempted to read off the assignments, but was forced into silence in an effort to control the giggle that threatened to erupt from her throat.

Lenna tried to stifle her laughter. Alek was guffawing, and she couldn't help joining him. The sight was incredibly comical: Tanda, trying desperately keep her composure, sat atop Kerrik who was himself laughing. Thenin just stood there, flummoxed.

Tanda finally gave in, collapsing onto the desk in laughter. Amidst her laughing fit, she waved the papers vaguely at Kerik, managing to flap him in the face. "You read them...hee....I.....hahaha.....can't," she nearly fell off her 'chair', but he caught her.

(Coming into the planet's atmosphere...)
"Mayday, Mayday, this is Red 9. My X-wing is being chased by two Raider scout ships. Can anyone hear me?"
Dodging to the right in her X-wing to avoid incoming fire from one of the enemy ships, Tess Octuri struggled to keep her rapidly disintegrating ship together. She glanced at her radar and swung her cannon to bear on one of the silvery vessels and fired. There was a flash and she knew that there was only one ship left.
Suddenly, the X-wing shuddered. Alarms started blaring in her cockpit, telling Tess that it was time to bail. Acting quickly, she set the autopilot on a course to the remaining Raider scout, and activated her ejector seat. With a rough jerk, she was suddenly up in the air. As she fell toward the earth, she watched as the Raider was destroyed by the incoming X-wing. Just as she was about to activate the small jetpack on the back of her seat, her descent was rudely interrupted by- a tree?
Tess looked around her. Evidently, she hadn't been as far from the ground as she thought. She unbuckled herself and, climbing onto a limb, looked all around her. Straight in front of her line of sight was a building. She shrugged as she checked to be sure her lightsaber was still on her belt and scanned the ground with her green eyes. Jumping deftly from the tree, she started running toward the building...

A burst of static interrupted the laughter. "Mayday, Mayday-------9--------Raider scout-------anyone hear---. A final explosion cut off the rest of the communication. The room was now silent, no more laughter could be heard, all eyes were upon the lone comlink lying carelessly upon the desk. Thenin was the first of the group to recover. Looking pointedly at Kerrik she snaped out. "Get a team out there! Didn't you hear? Raider scouts are in our atmosphere!"

All five of them were out the door in an instant. Kerrik grabbed the comlink off the desk and yelled something into it--what, Lenna couldn't tell. She was in too much of a rush. Before she knew it, they were in the hangar bay. She nearly ran into someone coming out. "Wha--? Who--?"
"Tess Octuri," the figure replied. "I take it someone heard me."
"Yeah." She turned toward where Alek was helping Kerrik and Tanda into their X-wings. "Alek!" she yelled, "Somebody here I think you should talk to!"
Alek jogged over to where Lenna and Tess were standing. "Yeah, babe?" he said, directing his question at Lenna.
"Tess, tell him."

Tess looked at the party who had met her in the hanger. She knew Thenin right off, but the rest of these people were strangers to her. Directing her gaze at Alek, she said. "Two Raider scouts chased me in the atmosphere. They're both gone now, but I don't know if they got any messages out to reinforcements or not." Her message delivered, she turned to Thenin. "Nice to see you. When did you get here?"

Thenin chortled as she watched the two miscreants begin circling each other in an attempt to find the others weak spot. "You certainly have a strange way of meeting guests here."

Meanwhile, Lenna and Tess were going at it hammer and tongs. Lenna had taken the defensive, her pure-white blade spun incessantly in her left hand, parrying Tess's orange one. Then Tess caught her toe on a crack in the floor. She recovered her balance quickly enough, but Lenna had already used the added time to transition from defense to offense. She rained down a fury of blows on her opponent. Tess blocked them all. Lenna let a grin slip through her concentration. She hadn't fought anyone this determined in too long. But then, she'd been in isolation for years...but nevermind that. Her concentration was solely on the woman and the lightsaber before her. Anticipating, predicting, parrying. She realized her Force ability wasn't what it once was. Out of practice, she thought.
Tess's orange blade was spinning faster than before. It was all Lenna could do to block it. She smiled. "Guess what."
The orange blade never paused. "What?"
"I'm not left-handed."
Lenna all but threw her lightsaber into her right hand. The tide of battle turned.

(LOL! )
Surprised by the sudden ferocity with which Lenna fought, Tess was forced backward toward a parked X-wing, and before she knew it, she had been cornered. As she parried Lenna's blows, she rasped. "There's something that you should know."
Never blinking an eye, Lenna grinned. "Let me guess. You're not left-handed either?"
"No." Tess replied. She pressed a hidden button on her hilt and another blade sprang out. "I am left handed, because of my lightsaber!" Using the Force, she back-flipped, landing awkwardly on top of the X-wing.

Lenna followed suit, ending up balanced on the nose of the X-wing. Tess advanced, and Lenna did her best to beat off the attack. Finally, she reached out with the Force and unclipped the lightsaber from an astonished Tanda's belt. The hilt spun toward her, the light blue blade igniting as it flew.
Now, with a lightsaber in each hand, the odds were finally matched. She and Tess fought until the sweat ran into their eyes. Finally, Tanda bellowed, "ENOUGH! CALL A TRUCE, YOU TWO!"
<<sorry, but I couldn't have you determining my blade color!>>

Unfortunately, Tanda's yell distracted Tess, and she looked away from Lenna for one fateful second. That was all Lenna needed. Acting quickly, she brought both lightsabers down on Tess' with such force that Tess was immediatly disarmed. The lightsaber flew through the air, finally landing vertically with one of the blades sunk in the floor. Jumping down from her perch, Tess recovered her weapon and switched it off. "That was the best sparring match I've had for awhile."

Tanda laughed, grabbing her saber back with the force. It exectuted (sp?) an impressive series of twists and flips while en route, landing, still lit, in its master's hand. She narrowed her eyes and smiled grimly, the smile of the warrior. "And now, my friend, we meet. But my, I forget my honor. I now have a distinct advantage because you are weary. Care to rest?" She bowed low, the formality of one seeking pardon. Friends, allegiances, and time were all forgotten. She knew her opponent's identity, she knew her own side. The strength of battle was seeping into her system, slowly transforming her to someone completely different. She was ready.

"Rest? Ha! You underetsimate me." There was the glint of battle-lust in her eyes. She smiled grimly, ignited her lightsaber, and the battle began.
Slowly, they circled, feinting, looking for weaknesses. Lenna allowed Tanda the first strike, and parried it easily. She settled into a comfortable defensive stance, waiting. She allowed nothing to break her concentration. The Force was in her now, flowing. She anticipated Tanda's every move, and countered. She could feel Tanda doing the same thing, only offensively. She looked toward the group of spectators for a moment, and Tanda took advantage of that, going for Lenna's left side. Lenna, her attention still on the spectators, parried efficiently.
