"Besides," Alek commented,"I'll be right there with her. I've been assigned to her squadron." "You what?" "I'm in her squadron" Kerik stood there, silent for a moment, looking incredulous. "So what your saying is that I'm stuck on a no-threat battlecruiser while you are out there fighting side-by-side with MY TANDA?" Tanda smacked Kerik "Stop being possessive!"

Lenna paled somewhat at Alek's statement, but then recovered. "Good luck," she. "To both of you. Now.... What am I to do? I want to do something. After all, I've been doing absolutely nothing for over two years. So, who do I report to?"

Tanda grinned, "You report to my father. He's on the way, so I'll take you there. I've got to gather somethings at home camp anyway. Kerik, you had mentioned wanting to talk to my father about something as well...?"

Lenna raised her eyebrows and gave Tanda a significant look. "Something else?...I think I can guess what that might be."

Tanda shrugged, "I can't. This is the best-kept secret in the galaxy. I swear, Kerik has never been this undercover about anything," Kerik did his level best not to pay any particular attention to the conversation, blushing anyway. He inspected his boots very closely..."Uh...yes. I do need to talk to him." "Shall we leave immediately?" "No...erm....my droid is tired. Couldn't possibly leave tonight. Show us to your camp and we can set up our tents." Tanda looked suspiciously at Kerik before heading off toward camp. "His droid is tired? That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard." She whispered to Lenna. Lenna stifled a laugh.

"Alek has offered lamer excuses than that," Lenna said. "Haven't you, Alek?"
Alek shrugged. "Maybe, maybe not. It really depends on your point of view."
Lenna rolled her eyes. "You haven't changed much, that's all I'll say."

They arrived and set up camp. That is to say, the guys set up their tents and the ladies began preparing something to eat. As soon as Kerik and Alek were situated, they all sat down around the fire for dinner. Tanda had made something out of fish she had caught. Lenna had dutifully stayed away from anything involving cooking. She helped watch the fire and chop the vegtables.

After they'd eaten, Lenna commended Tanda on "an excellent meal. Truly excellent."
"I noticed you didn't help her much, Lenna," Kerik said.
"She's not good at that kind of thing," Alek said. "Trust me, I've learned from experience. That's why I'm so good."

Tanda snorted into her bowl, attempting to hide a laugh.

Lenna attempted to gather her scattered dignity. "Well," she said, "I believe I'll turn in. Good night, all!" and went into her tent and slept.

The others followed suit after a few hours of talking.
Dawn found Tanda in the forest, not far from the camp. She was thinking, wandering, pondering by a stream when she was ambushed by a figure in the twilight. Her lightsaber was out and leveled at her assaultant's neck before either could blink. "Oh...Kerik. You shouldn't do that, you know. I almost had your head there." "I know." "What's wrong?" "Nothing. I love the morning stillness. The dew, the sun, the fresh air, the slow creep of warmth. Put away that lightsaber!" She did, and the two stood in contented silence for a while. Abruptly, Kerik said, "I think we should head back. I can smell breakfast, and it's making me hungry." "Alek must be the one cooking if it's making you hungry." "He is." "Okay"
The two wandered slowly back to camp and sat down by the fire to wait for their breakfast.

Meanwhile, back at the camp, Alek was trying valliantly to teach Lenna a bit about cooking. Finally, Lenna threw up her hands in frustration. "I give up! I simply can't cook." She let Alek finish making breakfast.

Lenna plopped down by Tanda, looking quite annoyed. Tanda looked over and simply raised her eyebrows at Lenna. Lenna scowled at her and continued to fume.

After they'd all eaten breakfast, Alek said he had some things to do and walked off toward his x-wing. Lenna followed him after a few minutes, leaving Tanda and Kerik on their own....

Tanda and Kerik began packing their things. As they worked, Tanda raised a quizzical eyebrow at her companion. "So what is this that you wanted to talk to my father about?" "No weedling." "No, I mean it! Is it about me?" "Sort've." Kerik cracked his wry half-smile and gave Tanda a look that clearly said 'It's a surprise'. Tanda laughed, "Alright, then. I won't press it any further. Alek and Lenna have been gone a while." She shook her head, "And they accuse us of being too affectionate..."

In truth, Lenna and Alek had been discussing all that had happened to each of them during their long separation.
As Lenna strode back into the camp, she said "So... What are our plans? Are we staying here an extended length of time, or moving on soon?"

"I had planned to leave this morning, so that we could tarry on my planet." Tanda said.

Alek grinned and strated to make a remark, but Kerik glared at him. He sheepishly kept his mouth shut. They all packed up their equipment. As they were ready to leave, Tanda brought up the next issue. "So... who's riding with who?"

"Hmm..." Lenna contemplated. "Let's avoid unnecessary romantics and say Alek and Kerik will man their own ships, and you and I will ride together."

Kerik pulled a sad face, "Aww....why can't we ride with you? Did you and Alek quarrel, or something? You seem to be rather inclined toward unecessary romanitcs." Tanda smiled and kicked him.

"For one thing," Lenna said, "How many people do you expect to fit in one X-wing? Besides, the way I see it, we can't leave any of them here. So let's avoid unnessary unfairness and romantics and leave the way we came."

Kerik started to say something, but Tanda stepped in. "Lenna is right. We can all meet up at the landing station. It will give Lenna and me some time to talk, Alek some time to collect his thoughts after this whirlwind meeting, and you....It will give you some time to rehearse your proposal. To father. Whatever you're going to say." Tanda turned and walked away, blushing furiously. She loaded up the X-wing and prepared for take-off. While she was waiting for Lenna, Kerik came up. "Whatever gave you that idea, Tanda?" he said, looking up at her. "What idea?" "You know. But anyway, came to say goodbye and good flight." Tanda simply leaned down and kissed him goodbye, whispering "Be safe."

Lenna walked with Alek to his X-wing.
"Happy flying," she said, and stuck out her hand. He took it in a firm handshake, then pulled her to him. She hugged him back, hard. "Don't do anything stupid."
Alek laughed, and put his hands on her shoulders and pushed her out to his arms' length. "You know I don't do any of it on purpose," he said.
"Well, you do some pretty dumb things, so don't repeat your first day flying."
"Did you have to bring that up?"
"Of course. Are you so afraid you'll repeat it?"
"No, I remember history, and therefore am not condemned to repeat it."
"All right." Lenna was still doubtful. "I trust you, I guess."
"You guess? I'd have thought you'd have more faith in me than that. Hey, listen, don't worry about me. I'll be fine."
"I know." She hugged him again.

Kerik gazed softly at Tanda for a moment, then turned and jogged to his ship. He took off quickly and was out of sight long before Tanda was ready to let go. She shook her head, and spied Lenna saying her goodbyes. "You two ready to go? At this rate, Kerik'll be there days before us!" she bellowed.

Lenna extracted herself from Alek's embrace, gave him a quick nod and another "Happy flying" and strode off toward Tanda. "Ready," she said.
